Collagraph

A collagraph is a printmaking plate created through collage onto a piece of mat board coated with gesso. I create the images using collage elements such as gesso, modeling paste, thread, sand, paper, net and plant matter. One can also cut into the plate or press objects into gesso to create texture. After sealing the plate with varnish, I ink the plate as one would with an intaglio plate, pushing the ink into the lines and textures and wiping the surface clean.
